They call me oppressed

I am the being that walks on earth with honour and respect
Yet they call me oppressed.
I am the being who values my mind.
No need to measure me by shape or size!
I am a revolutionist not a conformist
Yet I am seen to be subjugated.

I do not have an inferiority complex
nor do I have to measure myself by others.
My voice is the most valuable tool I posses
because it is valued by the One Himself.
I am the hand that rocks the cradle
Yet I am seen to be powerless

I did not have to fight for my rights
since Islam secured this with my honour in sight.
1400 years of women’s liberation and 87 years of oppression.
It is western values of freedom and liberty that cause us repression
And cultural aspects that bring us suppression.
Islam is not to blame as it alone offers us elevation

The caliphate, when it governs you and I, its western interference that dies
And great opportunities for women then arise.
It was the bravery of Khawla bint al azwar, the black knight
And the contribution of Zubaida that bring women might
A patroness of poets who designed cities,
engineered Makkah’s water supplies.
And Aysha bint Sa’ad, learned in Islamic Sciences,
a great teacher of Imam Malik

These are not merely stories to tell.
With these examples its world-wide propaganda that we dispel
It’s Islam that gives me a role in society
not gender equality; it brings me hostility.

My way of life demands that I am respected.
I am what I am....
A Muslimah.
Not oppressed nor suppressed
simply empowered by the best
